about

May 11th, '12 - Wooden Shoe Photogaphy is a website for showcasing the work of Geordie Mott (b. 1976), a Canadian photographer based in Halifax, NS, specializing in documentary, editorial and commercial photography. He is a graduate of the Nova Scotia College of Art & Design photography and media arts department.

In 2010, Geordie participated in a Magnum Photo masterclass at the Contact Photo Festival in Toronto and he also traveled to Haiti that summer to help film,"The Lives of The Saints: Achante", a documentary examinging Haiti's collisions and convergences of Vodou and Catholic religions.

For the first few months of 2012, Geordie has become obsessed with the website Blurb and began creating and publishing his own books and three of the projects highlighted here are available for on-line purchase through Blurb.

In January, Geordie completed producing imagery for the Canada Games Centre, a brand new mulit-million dollar sports facility built just outside Halifax. That work encompassed creating photographs for use in their website, listing guides and promotional material. Some of that work is displayed here and on the Centre's website as well.

More recentlty this month, Geordie has started a Twitter account at geordie@woodenshoephoto . Up next week, Geordie will be taking part in MediaStorm's on-line multimedia workshops that focus on creating multi-dimensional, web-based, documentary work through photography, video and audio research.

The Lives Of The Saints: Achante (2011)

In July of 2010 Geordie traveled to Haiti with Mazibel Productions for a Canadian/UK production for the film 'The Lives Of The Saints: Achante'. The film has recently premiered in North America, this past September, at the Hell's Kitchen Film Festival in their Short's Competition. And in more recent news, the film has been selected to screen at a little festival in the quaint sea side town of Cannes, in the south of France. Geordie was a second unit camera on this gorgeous film that explores the convergences between Catholic and Vodouissant culture through stylized vignettes of important characters in the Haitian religious mileu.
